#1. Forest Trail PS

Neighbourhood: West Oak Trails | WESTMOUNT
Grades: 2-8, french immersion only
High school: Garth webB SS
SCORE: 9.3/10
PREVIOUS RANK: #1

This is the first of four ‘French Immersion Only’ schools in our Top 5. Oakville is quite unique in the amount of ‘French Immersion Only’ schools that it offers with five in total across the city. French Immersion begins in Grade 2 and runs through until Grade 8.

Forest Trail, located in the attractive neighbourhood of West Oak Trails in northwest Oakville, has been a top school for many years and continues to hold the top spot this year!

Many parents wonder if all-French instruction negatively impacts a child’s ability to learn English, but that doesn’t seem to be the case. In fact, French Immersion schools historically tend to score much stronger in comparison to their peers.

For those looking for a great school in a great neighbourhood, Forest Trail and West Oak Trails fit the bill.

#2. Munn’s PS

Neighbourhood: Falgarwood | Wedgewood Creek | Joshua Creek | Joshua Meadows
Grades: 2-8, french immersion only
High school: white oakS SS
SCORE: 9.2/10

Munn’s PS is the second ‘French Immersion Only’ school on our list. Located in College Park but serving the neighbourhoods mainly of East Oakville, Munn’s is a Gr 2-8 school with ~487 students. And like the other schools on this list, they’ve had another phenomenal year posting scores that rival some of the top schools in the province.

Munn’s takes in JK-1 students from Falgarwood, Sheridan, Joshua Creek and small portions of Montclair and River Oaks PS which encompasses most of East Oakville.

Munn’s maintains its spot at #2 in this year’s rankings. It’s been a pretty consistent performer for most of the past 15 years since we started tracking school rankings!

The neighbourhoods it serves vary greatly from the older, more affordable 1970s style of Falgarwood to some of the nicest, newest pockets in the city in Joshua Creek and Meadows. This is a great overall school zone with lots of options for buyers!

#3. E.J. James

Neighbourhood: Old Oakville | Morrison | Ford
Grades: 2-8, french immersion only
High school: Oakville Trafalgar
SCORE: 9.1/10
PREVIOUS RANK: #3

​​E.J. James is the third straight French Immersion school on our list. Another traditionally top-ranked school, it maintains its stranglehold in the Top 5.

If you’re looking for regular English-program schools, you’re in luck here as students living in Morrison would attend highly-acclaimed New Central PS. That makes this a very strong school zone overall.

The downside? The average price to live in Morrison in southeast Oakville is quite expensive. However, if you have the budget there are few areas better to settle into long-term than Morrison and, alternatively, Ford and Old Oakville.

For those on a slightly more modest budget, you can still find incredible schools all over Oakville, so fear not!

#4. Pilgrim Wood

Neighbourhood: Glen abbey
Grades: JK-8, English & French immersion (2-8)
High school: abbey park SS
SCORE: 9.0/10
PREVIOUS RANK: #4

Pilgrim Wood PS is a JK-8 school with ~920 students. Good news though! There is both English AND French Immersion available here.

Like other French Immersion schools in Oakville, the program begins in Grade 2. For those not looking for French Immersion, Pilgrim Wood also has the regular English-language only instruction.

Pilgrim Wood PS, like the others, retains its spot this year – again at #4.. They’re also the only English-track option in the Top 5 this year. However, there are other amazing English-track schools in Oakville to choose from!

Because of this and its location in the wonderful and mature neighbourhood of Glen Abbey in west Oakville, Pilgrim Wood would make for a great option for families to target.

#5. Sunningdale

Neighbourhood: College Park | River Oaks
Grades: 2-8, FRENCH IMMERSION ONLY
High school: WHITE OAKS
SCORE: 9.0/10
PREVIOUS RANK: #5

Sunningdale rounds out our Top 5 Elementary Schools in Oakville – and you might have guessed it, it’s another Grade 2-8 ‘French Immersion Only’ school. That makes it our fourth in the top 5 already! 

Also located in College Park, Sunningdale serves both students in College Park and neighbouring River Oaks to the north.

Sunningdale has been a mainstay in the Top 5 Oakville Elementary School Rankings for years now and this means all five schools retain their place once again.

For those wanting to live in this affordable area, the English-track option is probably one of only two places I woudn’t recommend in Oakville.

If looking for a more affordable area, look to Falgarwood to the East for a better English-track option.
