Neighbourhoods: Ancaster, Mountain West & Mountain South (of Rymal)
Score: 7.4/10
Previous Rank: #1
Bishop Tonnos, aka “The Titans”, is located in southwest Ancaster (just west of Hamilton) and is no stranger to the top of the rankings. They’ve consistently scored very well and this year retain their spot as the #1-ranked Catholic high school in Hamilton!
This is in large part due to the overall strength of the school zone in both Ancaster and Mountain West/South.
In fact, its elementary feeder schools make up a whopping 4 out of the Top 10 Catholic Elementary Schools in Hamilton.
Bishop Tonnos’ Specialist High Skill Major (SHSM) programs include:
- Arts & Culture
- Business
- Construction
- Health & Wellness
- Manufacturing
- Non-Profit
- Transportation
Well-known for their strength and pride in community, the Titans offer more beyond academics. They have a huge amount of sports on offer including badminton, baseball, basketball, cheerleading, curling, field hockey, figure skating, football, golf, hockey, soccer, swimming, tennis, track & field and volleyball just to name a few.

#2. St. Mary
Neighbourhoods: West Hamilton, Dundas, Waterdown & Flamborough
Score: 6.9/10
Previous Rank: #2
Located in Ainslie Wood in west Hamilton, St. Mary’s also serves a large population of students in Kirkendall (Lower Hamilton) and neighbouring Dundas, Waterdown & Flamborough. After another strong year, St. Mary’s retains its 2nd-place standing in this year’s rankings!
St. Mary’s also has a strong collection of elementary feeder schools which certainly helps as tests are conducted only for Grade 9 (math) and Grade 10 (literacy) students. And, we generally see a pretty strong correlation between the strength of elementary schools and those of their high schools.
So, if you’re looking for a great overall school zone in Hamilton, this is another that should be near the top of your list.
