Downtown Oakville
Downtown Oakville is the most lively spot in the city. While it’s not exactly downtown Toronto and locals will debate with those over in Burlington who has the better downtown/waterfront, there are tons of things to do here. Let me walk you through it.
Shopping and Dining
You’ve got boutique stores all along Lakeshore Road—whether it’s clothes, gifts, or something unique, you’ll find it here. Hungry or looking for a cafe to hang out at? You’re spoiled for choice. Trust me, there’s a restaurant or cafe for every craving.
Cultural Attractions
Love history or live performances? Stop by the Oakville Museum at Erchless Estate—it’s a cool little museum with lots of local stories. And if you’re into shows, check out the Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts. They’ve always got something going on, whether it’s a play, concert, or even comedy. You also have the Oakville Public Library – Central Branch right next door.

Parks and Waterfront
The waterfront in Downtown Oakville is a gem. Lakeside Park is a great spot to relax, walk, or even just sit with a coffee and enjoy the lake views. If you’re into photography, the Oakville Lighthouse or Tannery Park are awesome spots. It’s one of those places where you just feel like you can slow down and breathe.
Special Events
Downtown really comes alive during events. The Oakville Santa Claus Parade is a must if you’re around for the holidays—it’s been running forever, and it’s such a family-friendly vibe. During the winter, Towne Square sets up with fire pits and free hot chocolate, which is always a nice touch. Plus, there are always festivals or outdoor concerts popping up throughout the year.
The Rest of Old Oakville
Old Oakville is not just the downtown core. There are other local parks like Post Park (and dog park), Maple Valley Park and Cornwall Valley Park just north of Cornwall Road.
For those into curling, there is the Oakville Curling Club and for tennis the Wallace Park Tennis Club both just next to Sixteen Mile Creek.
For everyday grocery shopping, dining and other amenities, you have tons of options at the retail corridors off Cornwall Road at the north end of Old Oakville. In fact, this will be your main spot to shop with both a Whole Foods Market and Longo’s nearby.
Not to mention all of this is just steps to the Oakville GO station which is going to take you into Toronto in about 30 minutes which opens up tons of other options for both work and play!
