Port Credit overview

Port Credit is located in south Mississauga east of Lorne Park, west of Lakeview and south of Mineola. It is undoubtedly one of Mississauga’s most sought after neighbourhoods and one of the best waterfront communities in the GTA.

Port Credit has a long and storied history. It was officially purchased way back in 1805, but it wasn’t until 1974 that it officially joined the city of Mississauga. It is one of several “villages” that make up Mississauga and today stands as the entertainment capital of the city.

It has the Lakefront, the shops, the restaurants, the nightlife and the atmosphere that all walks of life crave. This is why the stretch of Lakeshore that runs through the neighbourhood will be packed every weekend (with decent weather!).

Filled with parks, amenities and the location of several major waterfront redevelopments, Port Credit can be considered the heartbeat of Mississauga.

Port Credit real estate

home styles in Port Credit

Port Credit real estate can be some of the most expensive in the city. The value, of course, lies in its location. This is, in our opinion, the most sought after neighbourhood in Mississauga. However, inventory is quite low here for freehold homes.

For detached homes you’re going to find a huge mix of styles. There’s pre-war, post-war and century old homes. Lot sizes tend to be much smaller here than neighbouring Lorne Park and Mineola, so the custom homes that are built here tend to be much more subtle and appropriate for the area.

The homes are charming and the backdrop of the streets and proximity to the Lake make these some of the nicest areas in the city to call home. Take a walk around Cranberry Cove, beside Rhododendren Gardens, to see one of the most unique and charming areas in the entire GTA.

Despite all the benefits and perks of living here, you can still find relatively affordable detached homes in Port Credit. Just keep in mind that there IS a premium on these homes compared to other neighbourhoods and many of them will be close to full teardown projects.

For those looking for something more affordable, there are many condo options now available throughout Port Credit. You can find luxury condos and units, but there are more relatively affordable units for professionals, singles, downsizers and small families.

The premium you pay to own Port Credit real estate is worth it for the lifestyle the area provides.

Pros & Cons

What are the Pros & Cons Of Living in MIssissauga?

Port Credit median home prices

affordability

Below is the median sales price per home type. The median sales price is the price where half of the listed prices are higher and the other half are lower than it. This better represents affordability than the average sales price.

While these figures are updated as much as possible, it’s best to contact us below for real-time pricing.

Finally, please note that “Condo” includes condo townhomes while “townhome” includes both freehold and common element fee townhomes. If you see a dash (-), then this home type has not seen a sale in at least the last 180 days.

Port Credit schools

best schools

School information is updated yearly. Use the form below to download a copy of the latest school rankings.

school zone overview

There are currently only two schools physically located in Port Credit and both are public elementary schools – Forest Avenue and Riverside PS.

Both of these have scored well on EQAO testing with Riverside PS falling in the more affordable part of Port Credit. Both lead to fan favourite Port Credit Secondary.

On the Catholic side, no schools are physically located in Port Credit so parents will be relying on buses. St. Luke is located in Lorne Park and St Dominic on the eastern edge of Mineola. Those attending St. Luke will head to Iona SS and those at St. Dominic will go to the Top 5-ranked St. Paul.

Overall, the public schools are ranked higher than the Catholic side in terms of EQAO testing. Either way, these schools are all located in nice neighbourhoods that lead to sought after high schools.

Ask Me About Port Credit

These are the top four things people usually ask about Port Credit!

Contact Me
  • what's it really like to live in Port Credit?

Port Credit definitely feels like a modern day village especially with the plethora of new condo, townhome and waterfront redevelopments. Outside of Celebration Square in the City Centre, this is the life of the city. Because of that, you’ll find it packed every weekend and evening in the summer.

However, it’s comfortable and convenient at other times giving locals some reprieve from the rush of people who visit from around the GTA. This is definitely one of the best places to live in the entire GTA.

  • What's the commute like from Port Credit?

Port Credit is the major connection point for all transit in south Mississauga. The express GO train puts you into downtown Toronto in about 25 minutes and Square One is a short ride north on the Hurontario LRT. For drivers, you’re close to the QEW or you can take Lakeshore into Toronto or west to Oakville. Weekends, mornings and evenings will be busy.

This is also one of the only neighbourhoods that is truly walkable, so if you need to shop you don’t have to jump in the car or on the train.

  • Why Should I Live in Port Credit?

If you’re looking for a home in a walkable community that’s full of life with easy access to the rest of the city and Toronto, then there’s no better place to be than here. The shops, restaurants, parks, trails, waterfront etc. Name it and Port Credit has it.

You also don’t need to be a multi-millionaire to get in. There are many options available with the development of new condos all over Port Credit. It’s the closest to downtown Toronto that you will find in Mississauga.

  • why should i not live in Port Credit?

The number one reason is affordability. The majority of large, freehold homes are out of budget for most people. For those who can afford the price tag, they may opt for larger homes and lots in other luxury areas like Lorne Park or Mineola.

For those looking for condos, there’s definitely a premium put on Port Credit condos. So if you’re looking to maximize space, you may choose to go for ones at Square One or around the Erin Mills Town Centre.
