Lisgar overview

Lisgar is located in the northwest corner of Mississauga bordered by Churchill Meadows to the south and Meadowvale to the east. The town of Milton is a quick 15-min drive heading west using either Hwy 401, Derry or Britannia Road.

Lisgar is one of Mississauga’s youngest neighbourhoods. Developed mostly in the 90s and early 2000s, it’s really popular with families of all ages and sizes for its affordability, good schools, access to major highways (Hwy 401 and 407), public transportation (Lisgar GO station).

Also, if you like the outdoors, Lisgar was designed around a 7.9km trail and in the southwest corner you’ll find Osprey Marsh – a series of stormwater ponds surrounded by lovely homes.

Overall, this is a great family neighbourhood and one to shortlist if you’re looking to break into the market.

Lisgar real estate

home styles in Lisgar

Lisgar is one of the most affordable neighbourhoods for a family looking for their first home or “move-up” home, so if affordability is your #1 factor, Lisgar real estate should be at the very top of your list.

In the south and central parts of Lisgar you’ll find homes built in the 90s while the section north of Derry Road was built in the early 2000s.

The majority of homes are detached and semi-detached 2-storey brick homes. There’s a good balance of 3/4 bedroom homes and the sizes typically range from 1500-2500sq.ft. Lot sizes are not as generous as neighbouring Meadowvale though, so keep that in mind if it’s a top priority.

There are also some pockets of townhomes (some with a small road maintenance fee) that are great for first-time buyers, young families and downsizers to target.

Finally, if you’re looking for something a bit unique, then make sure to check out Trelawny Estates and the large detached homes found around Osprey Marsh in the south end of Lisgar referred to as “Avonlea on the Pond”.

Overall, this is an affordable suburban neighbourhood with nice homes and practical layouts. Most homes are very well-kept, but it’s also the perfect time to grab a home that’s due for some cosmetic upgrades.

Pros & Cons

What are the Pros & Cons Of Living in MIssissauga?

Lisgar median home prices

affordability

Below is the median sales price per home type. The median sales price is the price where half of the listed prices are higher and the other half are lower than it. This better represents affordability than the average sales price.

While these figures are updated as much as possible, it’s best to contact us below for real-time pricing.

Finally, please note that “Condo” includes condo townhomes while “townhome” includes both freehold and common element fee townhomes. If you see a dash (-), then this home type has not seen a sale in at least the last 180 days.

Lisgar schools

best schools

School information is updated yearly. Use the form below to download a copy of the latest school rankings.

school zone overview

Overall, Lisgar is a great neighbourhood for schools – you can check that box off your home search.

On the public schools side, you have two top-ranked elementary schools that feed into a top-ranked middle school. At the secondary level, students go into Meadowvale SS which shares a catchment area with the neighbouring Meadowvale. While not top-ranked it still performs very well and is home to the regional IBT program.

On the Catholic side, it’s even stronger. There are three highly-ranked elementary schools to choose from. At the high school level, it’s a similar story as the public side. Rankings come back down to above average. However, this should not be seen as a negative. These are all very strong scores above the city and provincial average.

Lisgar Meadow Brook Trail

The great thing about Mississauga is how easily nature can be explored right in your own neighbourhood. And for Lisgar, that place is the Lisgar Meadow Brook Trail which runs 7.9km from the north to the south end.

This place is terrific. It has paved paths perfect for walking, jogging or biking. You get scenic views along the way including Osprey Marsh. You’ll also be able to spot colourful birds and stop at one of the many playgrounds along the way. So you don’t have to leave your neighbourhood to enjoy a great day outdoors.

Osprey Marsh

In the southwest corner of Lisgar you’ll find Osprey Marsh. It is a collection of stormwater ponds, which may not sound like much, but it’s an essential part of the neighborhood.

The area was originally known as the “Catholic Swamp” because Irish immigrants settled there, trying to clear the land for farming. As I understand it, the land was too marshy for any serious agriculture, so now it’s filled with a mix of natural and man-made features like creeks, ponds, and marshes. They all work together to help manage water levels when we get those crazy rainstorms.

Plus, it’s become a really great green space for everyone around in the neighbourhood. There are these wide paved paths that are perfect for biking, jogging, or just taking a leisurely walk. And if you’re into a bit more of an adventure, there are dirt paths that cut through the little islands between the ponds and lead right into the marsh, connecting up with the Lisgar Meadow Brook Trail.

And the wildlife is amazing! There’s so much plant life, and all kinds of birds and ducks everywhere. It’s honestly such a great place to be close to nature.

Sports & Recreation

Lisgar does not have its own community centre but there are two excellent ones within a short drive: The Meadowvale Community Centre and Library and the Churchill Meadows Community Centre and Mattamy Sports Park. These places have everything you could possibly need in terms of sports and recreation and Meadowvale also includes a public library!

Within Lisgar you have the Lisgar Fields Community Park which has basketball and tennis courts along with soccer fields.

Retail & Shopping

There are two large retail and shopping centres located very close to Lisgar. The first is located at Winston Churchill & Argentia (just south of Hwy 401). This is where you can find large grocery stores like Canadian Superstore and Walmart along with large restaurants, clothing and home improvement stores.

Also very close by is the Meadowvale Town Centre at Winston Churchill and Aquitaine Avenue. This is a large neighbourhood retail centre with grocery stores, banks, home improvement & clothing stores and plenty of restaurants.

Ask Me About Lisgar

These are the top four things people usually ask about Lisgar!

Contact Me
  • what's it really like to live in Lisgar?

Life here is what most families expect out of a quiet, suburban neighbourhood. Lisgar is a wholesome family neighbourhood with all the amenities you need close by. With lots of parks and good quality schools, this is the ultimate first-time buyer pocket for the growing family.

  • What's the commute like from Lisgar?

The neighbourhood DOES have a GO Train station that takes you directly to Union during morning and evening rush hour. The trains do not run outside of those times (~630-815am & 4-7pm), but the province has committed to providing all-day, two-way service by 2031. You do also have easy access to Hwy 401 and the 407.

Where Lisgar does suffer a bit is that its isolated from the rest of the city and during peak times it can add 20-30 minutes to your commute.

  • Why Should I Live in Lisgar?

If you are looking for an affordable and spacious newer home in a family-friendly neighbourhood then Lisgar is definitely one you should shortlist.

You have very good quality schools at all levels, great parks and trails to explore and a major GO Train within minutes. It really has everything you need!

  • why should i not live in Lisgar?

The biggest reason people do not choose Lisgar is its location can be a bit too far west for those who need to commute longer distances. Also, lot sizes here tend to be on the smaller side because its a master-planned community built in the 90s and early 2000s.
