Exhibition Park overview

Located just north of what we consider “Downtown Guelph”, Exhibition Park is also bordered by Onward Willow to the west and to the north and east by Riverside and General Hospital in the city’s “North End”.

At the heart of the neighbourhood is the community’s park of the same name – Exhibition Park. Along with gorgeous tree-lined streets and being within walking distance to a bustling downtown core of restaurants, bars, and shops, it’s easy to see why this neighbourhood continues to be an area that all demographics gravitate towards.

The area has really seen a resurgence of young families and professionals in the area as many have returned to Guelph to raise children or find more affordable housing. There is a real sense of community here thanks in part to things like local neighbourhood groups.

Exhibition Park allows the best of both worlds where one can join friends for a pint at a local pub downtown, but easily retreat or find peace and quiet in one of the many parks in the area.

Exhibition Park real estate

home styles in Exhibition Park

Exhibition Park has a fantastic mix of homes of all shapes, sizes and age. Much like the downtown core just south of London Road, there are homes dating all the way back to the mid-19th century. In fact, you will find many homes of the Victorian (1837-1901), Gothic Revival (1840-1880) and Edwardian (1901-1910) eras.

While these kinds of homes can be found throughout different parts of Exhibition Park, I’d say the largest concentration would be found towards the southern boundary of the neighbourhood. As you cross London Road into what’s considered “Downtown Guelph” for MLS boundaries (though locals would still consider this Exhibition Park) these century+ classics can also be found.

But there are more than just gorgeous 150 year-old castles here.  For those looking for something a bit more subtle there are many incredible and unique bungalows and 2-storey detached homes that range from 50-100 years old.

Cute, charming and on sitting on wide, tree-lined streets, these homes can be found sprinkled throughout Exhibition Park.

For 2-storey homes, the most common type is your century 2-storey home. Many of these have been renovated over the years. Check out this one that was done in 2017. The brickwork looks fantastic and, trust me, the inside is gorgeous. You don’t have to take on a project to live here.

The north part of this pocket (closer to Speedvale) is fairly similar to the Sunny Acres pocket in the downtown core with smaller homes on small lots. These can sometimes look and feel like a bit of a hodgepodge of design but this is very common of “cottage” or old town planning.

You can even find newer homes in Exhibition Park as homes have been torn down for custom infill. And they’re not just monster ones either. Check out this amazing pocket built in the early 2010s:

Either way, Exhibition Park is one of the most desirable spots to live in Guelph and you don’t necessarily have to break the bank to get in.

Exhibition Park median home prices

affordability

Below is the median sales price per home type. The median sales price is the price where half of the listed prices are higher and the other half are lower than it. This better represents affordability than the average sales price.

Finally, please note that “Condo” includes condo townhomes while “townhome” includes both freehold and common element fee townhomes. If you see a dash (-), then this home type has not seen a sale in at least the last 180 days.

school zone overview

The public elementary school for Exhibition Park is Victory PS which is a JK-6 school. For those wanting to send their children to French Immersion, the school is also one of ten in Guelph that offers the program. Students here would attend between JK-4.

Victory PS has a long and storied history dating all the way back to 1919 and, thankfully for local resident Doug Stephens, it still to this day remains a shining example of a historically significant, heart of a neighbourhood community.

Students would then move onto Willow Road for Grades 7-8 before entering Guelph CVI for high school.

On the Catholic side, students would attend Sacred Heart from JK-8 before going to Our Lady of Lourdes for high school with the latter being located right in Exhibition Park.

The school zone is overall a solid one and there’s a tight-knit community that continues to this day. For the full report and rankings, please download the report below!

Parks in Exhibition Park Guelph

The crown jewel of Exhibition Park is, of course…Exhibition Park! Purchased and developed in 1871 by the City of Guelph, it originally hosted the yearly exhibition for residents (hence the name). At that time it also had a horse race track and livestock sheds.

These days, it’s the biggest green space near the heart of the city and it’s still where everyone in the city comes together to enjoy.

There are a ton of things to do for everyone at Exhibition Park including walking trails & paths, an amazing natural playground for the kids, picnic areas, a wading pad and an outdoor community rink in winter.

For sports lovers, there are baseball diamonds, a football field, and tennis and pickleball courts. You also have Hastings Stadium (originally built in 1925!) which is home to the Guelph Royals who are part of the Southern Ontario-based Intercounty Baseball League.

Finally, at the north end of the park is the Exhibition Arena (built in 1965) which has an indoor hockey rink run by the city.

Herb Markle, Joseph Wolfond & Goldie Mill Parks

While Exhibition Park is the main attraction, Herb Markle, Joseph Wolfond & Goldie Mill Park are great options to enjoy as well. Located on the east side of the neighbourhood right on the Speed River, you can enjoy the playgrounds of Herb Markle Park or follow the Downtown Trail from Joseph Wolfond Park through to Goldie Mill Park and all the way through to the mouth of the downtown.

On the way, make sure to stop by the Goldie Mill Ruins. These are the remains of a historic grist mill built in 1866 that was powered by the Speed River and was a huge part of Guelph’s early industrial activity.

The structure suffered from multiple fires, with the biggest in 1953 that left only the stone walls intact.

Shopping & Food in Exhibition Park

While most residents of Exhibition Park get to enjoy all the amazing shops, restaurants, pubs and venues in the core of downtown Guelph, there are some standout places that are a little bit closer to home.

For brunch and special milkshakes, check out “Park Eatery” and for some of the best bagels and scones I’ve ever had, a special shout out to Guelph’s famous “With The Grain” bakery.

Both of these are located conveniently across from each other at the corner of Woolwich/London Road in the southeast corner of Exhibition Park.
