Best Elementary Schools in Mississauga

Check out the scores and profiles of the best elementary schools in Mississauga in our “Top 5 Elementary Schools in Mississauga” feature story.

There is always lots of jockeying for positioning but your Top 2 (Kenollie and Vista Heights PS) remain the same. However, every year there are challengers that are consistently rising and pushing these schools to perform their best.

1. KENOLLIE PS (JK-6)

Kenollie Public School is located in the neighbourhood of Mineola, south of the QEW between Hurontario and Mississauga Road. Kenollie has been far and away the top school in Mississauga for a number of years now and again maintain its stranglehold on the title with an overall pass rate well over 90%.

The only issue is that the average home price ranges between 1 and 2 million dollars within the school boundary. With a small population and school boundary, not to mention prohibitive cost of entry, Kenollie will be tough to crack for most families. However, if you have the money, there’s no better place to be than here in Mineola.

2. VISTA HEIGHTS PS (JK-5)

Vista Heights PS is located in the neighbourhood of Streetsville in North Mississauga. Vista Heights PS has long established itself as one the premier schools in not only Mississauga but all of Peel region. With 60% of its students in the French Immersion track, it captures a large population in Mississauga that are aiming for access to the school while being able to live in one of the more affordable options outside of its English-track boundaries (which can be quite small).

However, for those that want the full Streetsville experience, this is one of the absolute best spots in Mississauga. As a former Streetsville resident, I may be a bit biased in saying that but Vista Heights PS alone makes a case for the growing family looking for the best possible education and lifestyle that Mississauga has to offer. This is a neighbourhood you can’t go wrong in and there are actually quite a few affordable options in the area!

3. MINEOLA PS (JK-6)

Yes, you’re reading this right. No, there isn’t a mistake. Located just three minutes from Kenollie PS, Mineola PS is located in the neighbourhood of Mineola, south of the QEW between Hurontario and Mississauga Road. In fact, the two schools are only about three minutes apart separated by Hurontario street.

Mineola PS has been one of the best schools in Mississauga buoyed largely by its very high French-Immersion population. However, you can’t fault consistency and Mineola PS has been nothing but that as it once again jumps back into a Top 3 position in Mississauga. However, as you probably guessed, the issue with Mineola PS is that the average home price is very high within the boundary making this a less than realistic option for many families. However, just like Kenollie PS, if you have the means there are very, very few areas that are more desirable than Mineola!

4. CREDIT VALLEY PS (JK-5)

Credit Valley PS is located in the neighbourhood of Central Erin Mills in West-central Mississauga. Credit Valley has had a huge surge in the past five years to cement itself as a Top 5 school in Mississauga. Benefitted by a very strong French Immersion program, Credit Valley PS has seen a 20.6% increase in its 5-year EQAO score – only four other schools in the Top 25 have seen a bigger increase.

Credit Valley PS is a fantastic choice for potential buyers as its also located in one of Mississauga’s best school zones. Students here would graduate to a top-ranked middle school (Thomas Street Middle) and the stalwart high school John Fraser SS. Inventory in this school district is low, so homes will be harder to come by, but as an alternative you may be able to get in through the French Immersion route which allows you to live anywhere in Central Erin Mills.

5. WHITEOAKS PS (JK-5)

Whiteoaks PS is located in the neighbourhood of Lorne Park, but is essentially a part of Clarkson. For those not familiar with Mississauga, it’s difficult to make this distinction. However, for school boundary purposes, Whiteoaks puts you in the Lorne Park boundary which is vitally important at the high school level. However, for those who don’t have the budget for the traditional Lorne Park area, Whiteoaks PS is the school for your child. Just stay east of Southdown road and you will get access to one of the BEST schools in Mississauga!

Whiteoaks comes in again at #5 in the city and is a model of consistency. Yes, they have a large French Immersion contingent, but that shouldn’t matter as their English-track boundary is large enough for potential homeowners to look at many, many options. For me, this is one of the best values in Mississauga and should be near or at the top of everyone’s potential lists!
